Born in São Miguel, Eduardo has in his memory that lush green of the islands, the endless pastures that only end in the cobalt blue of the ocean, between the embrace of hydrangeas and the gentle rhythm of the seasons. Eunice belongs to a family of people from the countryside, who worked there and found sustenance there for several generations.

The childhood memories of both are particularly associated with the countryside and the land and have defined their identity.

Maria Granel, an idea nourished and matured from 2013 to 2015, the year in which the first store opened, is exactly that for Eunice and Eduardo: a return to origins, a return home.

The store operates from day one with a pioneering B2C refill model in our country (BYOC - "bring your own container", "bring your own container" - Refill on the go), committed to preventing and reducing waste.

By encouraging the acquisition of only the quantity needed, bulk and the BYOC system also contribute to reducing food waste.

Aligned with SDG 12 - Responsible production and consumption, Maria Granel operates in a "pre-waste" logic, that is, preventing waste generation, through planning and adopting a more conscious consumption.

At Maria Granel you can find more than 2000 references, including certified organic food products - the store itself is also certified organic - and accessories for everyday life that are alternative.

In addition to physical stores, in Campo de Ourique and Alvalade, its work involves an environmental education program; books, e-books and training focused on combating waste, as well as promoting local and national production.
