Created by the Development Association of the Alto do Tâmega Region (ADRAT), in 2004, in order to preserve and conserve the habits and culture of Trás-os-Montes, the Alto Tâmega Tabernas Network currently has 14 taverns adhering to the network.
The central objective was, at the time, the implementation of a new concept of restoration based on family and traditional precepts, where, by reservation, the public can find local products and dishes in private kitchens, which are, by themselves, the maximum synonym of regional popular culture.
Spread across the municipalities of - Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar - the Alto do Tâmega Tabernas Network started with 12 founding taverns, during these years some closed and others entered, today there are 14 total.
In 2020, under the coordination of the agency Mesa - culinary culture and curated by Chef Vítor Adão, a website was launched with the mapping of these places and several initiatives to promote them.
