Residência is an emmersive experience that explores the gastronomic culture of each region in the country, with a special focus on local products and producers.
It is an initiative of Projeto Matéria, launched in 2023 by Chef João Rodrigues and Vânia Rodrigues, with the goal of promoting local territories, people, traditions, products, producers, and above all, the richness of Portuguese gastronomic culture.
The first season of Residência, in 2023, journeyed across the country, covering 12 regions in 12 months. More than 12,000 kilometers were traveled, involving over 20 local chefs. Participants had the opportunity to discover more than 60 producers and territories, and over 100 recipes were created using local ingredients.
This project serves to raise awareness of various issues, such as the challenges faced by low-population-density regions, the desertification of rural areas, and the disappearance of traditional knowledge and practices, which are important symbols of our culture.
It also fosters the sharing of knowledge about organic and regenerative farming methods that respect nature and the environment, as well as the recognition of small-scale producers as guardians of their territories, aiming to raise greater awareness around food consumption.
The second season of Residência will visit 7 regions and will feature international chefs in each of them who share the same vision. We believe that the exchange between different cultures will be incredibly enriching for everyone, making this experience even more special.
