We are in Mouriscas, a small Ribatejo parish in the municipality of Abrantes. Here, the fishing tradition on the river is ancient - after all, the Tagus River runs a few kilometers away. No wonder, therefore, that one of the largest freshwater fishers in this region has its headquarters here. Carlos Serras fished a lifetime. And it continues to do so often, even if today his business is not just about him. It has several vessels working on its behalf and when it is necessary it is also going to supply other waters. "If we do not get fish here we have to go get it where it exists," he says. In the tanks where he is purifying some of the seafood caught, he shows us several examples of crayfish of the river, a type of product that is only beginning to get some value in Portugal. In another, there are lampreys, which were scarce in Portuguese territory at this time, because of the weather. Already in the ark, he guards other types of species: Iberian nase, barbel, flathead grey mullet, and others. In short: if it swims in the river, Serras get it. And that is why it is so requested.
