With 7,500 hectares and located halfway between Lisbon and Madrid near Penha Garcia, in the Idanha-a-Nova municipality, Vale Feitoso is not only the largest estate in Portugal but also the largest privately-owned natural capital reserve in the Iberian Peninsula, fully managed under organic practices
With predominantly Mediterranean characteristics, Vale Feitoso is situated at a dual frontier: an administrative border (between Portugal and Spain) and a biophysical boundary between the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Continental regions, giving it an exceptional biodiversity richness on an Iberian scale.
Vale Feitoso has a millennia-old history in a region with Templar roots, following an earlier Roman presence with ancient mining reserves and the legacy of the country’s first orange grove. Its forest is FSC and PEFC certified, reflecting the sustainable management practices applied here, environmentally, socially, and economically.
The Leitão Machado family, owners and developers of this project, are dedicated not only to preserving the wild species inhabiting the estate but also to reviving endangered native breeds such as the Churra do Campo sheep and the Merina da Beira Baixa, which will soon be available for sale.
